Laser Cutting vs. Saw Cutting

Using the right cutting technology for your parts and components can make a difference in the quality of your products. That’s why, at ALZA Group, our PA laser cutting shop is invested in different types of advanced cutting equipment to serve our customers’ needs.

Laser cutting is one of our specialties. Let’s take a look at how it compares to the traditional technique of saw cutting.

Laser Cutting

If you need to cut parts from large sheets of metal (like steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper or brass), flat sheet laser cutting works extremely well. It’s quick, efficient and accurate. At ALZA Group, our flat sheet lasers can cut sheets as large as 83″ x 162″. That’s enough room for lots of raw parts!

In addition, laser cutting equipment enables you to cut and etch in one step. With the capacity to cut everything from single prototypes to full runs, this technology offers a good degree of versatility. However, it’s important to note that not all materials are available for etching.

Of course, every type of cutting technology has its disadvantages, too. Flat sheet lasers will cut only flat pieces of metal. That’s why our laser cutting shop also has 3D tube lasers that can cut round tube, channel, square tube and other open profile stock.

Thanks to its 3D rotating laser head, our tube laser can make complex cuts with ease – even beveling, chamfering and countersinking.

Saw Cutting

Saw cutting requires manual labor and is limited to making traditional saw cuts. While it can serve its purpose well for a simple, single cut, it’s otherwise slow and inefficient. When saw cutting, the quality of the end result depends upon the skill and expertise of the saw operator.
